Kakadu MicroWax: What Is It and Why You Need It

by Silva Digital December 16, 2020

Nothing beats pursuing great outdoor adventures especially if you have the right gear. Good thing, you can get protection from the sun’s blistering heat or the freezing winds in a stylish yet practical way, all thanks to oilskin jackets.

Outback clothing made from the highest quality, like Kakadu oilskins, can last up to centuries and can even be passed down to the next generations when properly cared for. However, much like anything else, even the toughest needs some TLC. Kakadu MicroWax exists to assure that your adventure clothing pieces are always in tip-top shape.

What exactly is Kakadu MircroWax?

All of our Kakadu oilskin products are built to last and are designed to endure all manner of harsh weather conditions and tasks. The Kakadu MircroWax is a reproofing cream that should be applied from time to time to help keep your Kakadu garments good as new.

This special cream is an intricate blend of oils and hard and soft waxes that help mend any damage to your outback clothing. The ingredients used in this kind of reproofing cream have high residual content that provides a unique balance of flexibility and minimal greasy feel.

The MicroWax provides a protective layer that keeps water and moisture from oilskin outback coats, jackets, and accessories. Using this blend makes the material more resistant to water. Additionally, its crystal structure allows garments to easily adapt to temperatures created by body heat and allows them to be breathable for more comfortable wear.

How to use our MicroWax?

It’s easy and simple! Put an ample amount of Kakadu MicroWax to a clean rag and apply it generously to the areas that need touching up like the seams, elbows, armpits, and other parts of your outdoor clothing that are exposed to high friction. Next, hang the garment in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

If you wish to refurbish an entire garment, use hot water to melt the wax into liquid. Once completely melted, use a clean paintbrush to spread the melted MicroWax to cover the entire garment and hang it to dry. Make sure to keep the garment away from sunlight for optimum results. As good practice, you can do this to your garment at least once every two years or whenever you encounter stains or scratches.

Why use MicroWax?

The Kakadu MicroWax ensures the durability of your adventure gear even after years of use. It allows the gear to remain water-resistant and allows it to keep the garment wearer warm. It’s a tested and proven solution to repairing and reproofing your Kakadu oilskin coats and hats.

What are other ways to take care of oilskins?

Regular application of our MicroWax is an excellent way of maintaining the quality of your oilskin garments. But this needs to go hand-in-hand with other methods:

  • Hang your oilskin after use, and allow it to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area.
  • Keep the garment away from artificial heat or flame. Do not leave hanging in direct sunlight.
  • Remove any excess dirt on your oilskin with a soft clothes brush, and sponged or hosed down with cold water.
  • On a monthly basis, do a quick check of oilskin for dry patches, especially in areas that are subject to friction such as knees, neck, sleeves, and shoulders. Dry patches indicate that these areas will require reproofing.
  • When not in use, always roll your oilskin and store it in a dry place.
  • Do not use hot water, soap, detergent, or any other cleaning agent on your oilskin. Never wring, spin, or tumble dry.
  • Do not iron or dry clean.

Where to get MicroWax?

Luckily, getting your hand to a Kakadu MicroWax is way easier than the upkeep process. All you need to do is to head over to our website where you can easily purchase a good 60G tin of Kakadu MicroWax and other quality Australian outdoor gear.
